Where was the KG Ranch in The Madison filmed?

The Clyburn family ranch was filmed at the KG Ranch in Gallatin County, southwest of Three Forks. The ranch spans 26,000 acres, runs a herd of 800 mother cows, and sits along the Jefferson River with the Tobacco Root Mountains as the backdrop. It's a working cattle operation, not a production set, and the film crew's presence there was brief. 

KG Ranch general manager Cody Jackson told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle the crew visited four or five times over the course of the shoot, staying a day or two each time before packing up and moving on to the next location.

The KG Ranch is private property and not open to the public. There's no visitor entrance, no signage on the road, and no tours. What scenes in The Madison were filmed in Three Forks?

Beyond the KG Ranch, the production used several locations within Three Forks itself, including the local airport, the rodeo grounds, and Kyd Road.  Kelly Smith, the Three Forks city treasurer, told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that most crew members stayed in Bozeman or Belgrade with catered meals, and that locals noticed more extra traffic on Kyd Road than anything else. The crew purchased water from the city to keep the dust down during filming, and left the facilities clean.

Where was The Madison filmed in Ennis?

The Madison was filmed in Ennis on Main Street and at the local shop, Sphinx Mountain Saddlery. Ennis is the small Madison County town about 60 miles south of Bozeman along the Madison River, and the production used it for town exterior scenes throughout the season. Many of the sweeping panoramic shots of mountain backdrops were filmed in this area as well, with the Madison Range rising to the east and the Gravelly Range to the west.

Ennis has a year-round population of around 1,000 people and a reputation that runs mostly on world-class trout water. Yes. Bozeman served as both a filming location and the production's operational hub for the Montana shoot. Downtown Main Street was used for street scenes, and the crew ran logistics out of the city throughout the summer and fall 2024 production window. Season 2, which began filming in Montana in September 2025, also returned to Bozeman locations, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

Bozeman is the practical base for anyone exploring the show's filming area. Three Forks is 30 minutes to the northwest, and Ennis is about an hour and 20 minutes south. Most of the cast and crew stayed in the Bozeman and Belgrade area during the Montana shoot.

Were the New York City scenes actually filmed in New York?

No. The NYC sequences were filmed in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. The production brought in NYPD-branded vehicles and yellow cabs and temporarily transformed streets in downtown Dallas and Fort Worth into the show's version of Manhattan. The final month or so of Season 1 production shifted from Montana to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to capture those scenes.

The Madison was renewed for Season 2 in August 2025, seven months before Season 1 even premiered. Season 2 filming returned to Montana in September 2025 before moving back to North Texas, following the same general production pattern as Season 1.
