What do you get when you combine horseback riding and skis? You get skijoring, one of Montana’s classic winter pastimes, where horses and riders pull skiers through gates, jumps, and rings at impressive speed.
This January, a new skijoring competition is coming to Bozeman, and it is shaping up to be a next-level skijoring competition.
The Gallatin Skijor Invitational is one of the stops on the inaugural PRO Skijor Frontier Tour, a new multi-state series that features higher-level competition and cash prizes.
This isn’t a casual exhibition or a single-day race. This event is a multi-day competition with a pro-division and higher stakes for competitors. Riders and skiers will travel from across the region to compete, and man, will it be fun to watch!
The Gallatin Skijor Invitational takes place over two weekends in January. The first weekend features divisions including junior, novice, women’s, snowboard, and sport classes, while the second weekend highlights higher-level competition, including pro and open divisions. Saturday of the second weekend also includes a Big Air event.
Big Air Under The Big Sky Division
General admission tickets are available for $20, with kids 10 and under admitted free. For those looking, there are also a limited number of VIP tables offered with dedicated seating and beverage service.
Food and drink vendors will be on site, and the event is designed to be accessible whether you’re a longtime skijoring fan or seeing the sport for the first time.
