How many affordable homes is Habitat for Humanity building in Belgrade?

Habitat for Humanity of Gallatin Valley plans to build 8 affordable homes in Belgrade’s West Post development over the next several years. The first two homes are expected to break ground in summer 2026, with the additional homes to follow.

West Post is a mixed-use development south of I-90 near Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. The project includes commercial, retail, multifamily, and single-family real estate, and sits in one of the areas seeing the most growth between Bozeman and Belgrade.

Who will the new Belgrade Habitat homes serve?

The new Habitat homes are expected to serve households earning around 70% to 80% of the area's median income. According to local reporting, that could include families earning around $90,000 per year or individuals earning around $65,000 per year, depending on final qualification requirements.

Habitat has pointed to teachers, first responders, blue-collar workers, or nonprofit leaders as examples of the people this project is meant to support. Eight homes will not solve the valley’s housing problem, but it does give 8 local households a more realistic path to ownership.

What will the Habitat homes cost?

Each home is expected to cost about $450,000 to build, but Habitat hopes to sell the homes for around $350,000 to qualified buyers. That leaves a gap of roughly $100,000 per home.

To help close that gap, Habitat for Humanity of Gallatin Valley is launching an $800,000 fundraiser tied to the West Post homes. The funding would help keep the homes closer to the intended $350,000 price point while accounting for the costs of land, labor, materials, infrastructure, and construction in the Gallatin Valley.

What about the Belgrade ReStore expansion?

At the same time, Habitat’s Belgrade ReStore is also expanding with help from a $300,000 grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.

The ReStore sells donated furniture, appliances, building supplies, home goods, and other usable items, with proceeds supporting Habitat’s housing mission. As the store has grown, so has the need for more room to manage donations, storage, sorting, and day-to-day operations.

A larger facility should help the Belgrade ReStore better manage that growth while continuing to serve as one of Habitat’s long-term funding sources for local housing work.
