Getting Your Home Ready to Sell This Spring

On Mar 13, 2020

Spring is the kick-off to the busiest time in real estate. (Although, here in Bozeman, Montana, real estate does not seem to slow down much any time of the year!) Spring is a wonderful time to list your home for so many reasons: it’s easier to show when you don’t have to walk through a pile of snow, and the landscaping is beginning to bud so yards look their best. If you plan on listing your home this spring here are a few things you can do to really help it stand out.

CLEAN UP THE FRONT PORCH AND YARD

The front of your home is the first impression buyers will have, so this is a big one! Sweep off the front porch, rake the old leaves that were missed in the fall, and add a welcome mat or outdoor décor to add some curb appeal. If you want to take it up a notch, get a fresh coat of paint on your front door, it’s amazing what a difference that can make.

LANDSCAPING

Another great way to dress up your front porch or yard is with some nice landscaping. If you had the forethought to plant some bulbs in the fall, you will be reaping the benefits of daffodils and tulips soon! If not, add some flowers in nice planters or hanging baskets to really brighten up your outdoor space. Make sure any bushes and shrubs are trimmed and the lawn is mowed.

SPRING CLEANING

If you plan on selling your home, a good deep clean is a great place to begin. Open the windows, let the stale air out and get started. Go through things and declutter while you are at it, it will make life easier when you sell your home and it’s time to pack up. Don’t ignore closets and cupboards. As potential homebuyers view your home, they are likely to go through those areas to check out the storage. This is also a great time to clean the windows inside and out. It’s a big job, but makes a huge difference to the appearance of your home!

TRADE COZY FOR BRIGHT

It's time to shake off the winter blues and freshen things up with bright colors in your home. Trade the dark colors on your bedding for something light & bright, add some fun throw pillows, change the table settings…think pastels or brights…anything that says winter is finally over!

DON'T FORGET THE BACKYARD!

While the front yard will be the first impression, the backyard will most likely leave a lasting impression. It’s generally the last place homebuyers stop so you want to make sure they leave with a good impression! Pull out the patio furniture and dust it off. Add some potted flowers and sweep off the deck. Like the front yard, clean up old leaves and debris that has been buried under the snow all winter. Check your landscaping and trim any trees or bushes that need it. You want the space to feel inviting and help home buyers picture summer barbeques and get-togethers.
