Bozeman’s Road Construction Season Is Starting Early - City Plans Nearly $29 Million in 2026 Infrastructure Projects

Construction season is back in Bozeman, and in 2026, it will get underway a little earlier than usual.

The City of Bozeman has announced 14 infrastructure projects totaling $28,830,898 for the 2026 construction season. The work includes road resurfacing, utility upgrades, safety improvements, and new shared-use path segments across the city.

At a high level, this year’s projects focus on two things: improving existing infrastructure and adding capacity in areas where growth continues to put pressure on city systems. In other words, the detour signs are back. 

What’s Included in Bozeman’s 2026 Infrastructure Project List?

This year’s construction work includes utility upgrades, road resurfacing, safety improvements, shared-use path additions, and a major new north side roadway connection.

On the utility side, the City is planning:

• sewer, water, and stormwater improvements across Bozeman 
• a new large sewer pipeline, known as the MSU Interceptor, running from Kagy Boulevard and South Willson Avenue to Babcock Street and South 9th Avenue 

• more than a mile of paving associated with utility work 

   

Road work will include:

• resurfacing on E Babcock St from S Willson Ave to S Rouse Ave
• resurfacing on Baxter Ln from N Cottonwood Rd to Riata Rd
• resurfacing on  N 15th Ave from Durston Rd to W Oak St
• continued friction seal treatment in neighborhoods and downtown streets

Work to increase traffic capacity will also include the connection of North 27th between Baxter and Cattail, with plans for a two-lane collector street, shared-use paths on both sides, a traffic signal at Baxter Lane, and a roundabout at Cattail Street.

The 2026 project list also includes safety and access improvements:

• added left-turn lanes at Oak Street and Ferguson Avenue 
• neighborhood traffic circles on North Black Avenue at Lamme Street and Villard Street 
• improvements to College Street from 8th Avenue to 11th Avenue to improve accessibility for people walking, biking, and driving
• four new shared-use path segments on existing streets throughout the city

How These Projects Are Funded

The City says funding for the 2026 construction season comes from a mix of grants, impact fees paid by development, and city assessments for improvement to existing infrastructure. 

It is shaping up to be a busy construction season in Bozeman, which is probably the least surprising news we’ll hear all spring.
