1825 W. Kagy Development Downsizes, Shifts to Affordable Housing

A new application submitted to the City of Bozeman on May 4, 2026 changes the plan for 1825 W. Kagy, the old home of the Bozeman Church of Christ. Now, the project looks a lot different than the one first proposed in 2023.

What changed at 1825 W. Kagy?

The original 2023 application called for a 450,000-square-foot building with 167 units aimed at student housing, along with a 324-space parking garage. The new filing scales that back significantly. The proposed building is now 182,000 square feet, about 60% smaller, with 160 dwelling units. The project is now designated affordable housing, and the parking garage has been replaced with a surface lot.

What is planned for the site now?

The application calls for demolishing the existing church building and constructing a new multifamily affordable housing building with surface parking. The site sits on 146,401 square feet, about 3.36 acres, consistent with the 3.349-acre parcel sold in the original filing. Current zoning is R-D Residential Mixed-Use High. The city is requiring a traffic study as part of the review, and no zoning departure or deviation has been requested.

Who is behind the project?

The property owner remains 1825 W Kagy LLC, tied to Nick Walton and Reuter Walton, the Minnesota-based developer connected to the original 2023 filing. The application was submitted by TD&H Engineering, with Cody Croskey listed as the representative. 

The application is in the review process with the City of Bozeman.
