Getting Your Home Ready to Sell This Spring

Getting Your Home Ready to Sell This Spring

April is the kick-off to the busiest time in real estate.  (Although in Bozeman it doesn’t seem to slow down that much any time of the year!)  It’s when the flowers start to pop up, open houses fill weekends and for sale signs show up in yards.  Spring is a wonderful time to list your home for so many reasons.  It’s easier to show when you don’t have to walk through a pile of snow, and the landscaping is beginning to bud so yards look their best.  If you plan on listing your home this spring here are a few things you can do to really help it stand out in the Bozeman market.

The front of you home is the first impression buyers will have so this is a big one!  Most likely it looks a little rough after our long winter.  Sweep off the front porch, rake the old leaves that were missed in the fall and maybe add a welcome mat or décor for some personality.  Or go crazy and get a fresh coat of paint on your front door, it’s amazing what a difference that can make.  Especially if it’s a fun color!

Another great way to dress up the front porch or yard is flowers.  If you had the forethought to plant some bulbs in the fall you are most likely already reaping the benefits of daffodils and tulips (while also hoping for no spring snow storms that will bury them!)  If you didn’t, it’s still too early to plant flowers in Montana.  However, we’re getting close to it being safe to have some in a planter on the porch, just make sure to keep an eye on the weather and bring them inside on chilly nights.

There’s a reason everyone gets an itch to clean in the spring and I’m pretty sure it’s because you can open the windows and let in all that wonderful fresh air!  If you plan on selling your home, a good deep clean is a great place to begin.  Open the windows, let the stale air out and get started.  Go through things and declutter while you are at it, it will make life easier when you sell your home and it’s time to pack up.  Don’t ignore closets and cupboards, as potential home buyers view your home they are likely to go through these things to check out the storage area.  This is also a great time to clean the windows inside and out.  It’s a big job, but makes a huge difference to the appearance of your home!

Winters in Bozeman are cold.  There’s probably extra blankets on the couch and cozy touches throughout your home to keep your spirits up through those long, snow days.  Now is the time to put those away and freshen things up with bright colors.  Maybe some fresh cut flowers to really add a spring-like touch.  Trade the dark colors on your bedding for something cheerier.  Add some fun throw pillows, change the table settings…think pastels or brights…anything that says winter is finally over!

While the front will be the first impression, the backyard will most likely leave a lasting impression.  It’s generally the last place homebuyers stop so you want to make sure they leave with something good in their mind.  Pull out the patio furniture and dust it off.  Add some potted flowers and sweep off the deck.  Like the front yard, clean up old leaves and debris that has been buried under the snow all winter. Check your landscaping and trim any trees or bushes that need it.  You want the space to feel inviting and help home buyers picture summer barbeques and get togethers.

Happy Spring!
