No Longer a Concert Venue: Here's What's Next for The Rialto

On Nov 21, 2025

After its reopening in January 2019, The Rialto had a great run as a concert venue. Now the Rialto is stepping into a new chapter, and instead of concerts and comedy nights, it's about to be something a bit more unexpected.

What’s Next for the Rialto Theater?

The historic Rialto Theater is set to become the new home of Tinworks Art, the Bozeman-based nonprofit known for its large-scale, contemporary art installations. Tinworks is expanding its footprint from its industrial site in the northeast neighborhood to a new, year-round space downtown.

The new location opens on November 21 with Matthew Barney’s 2018 Western film “Redoubt.” The installation runs through February 1, 2026, marking the beginning of Tinworks’ first permanent, year-round space at the Rialto for art installations, film screenings, performances, and artist talks.

Why Did Tinworks Choose the Rialto?

Tinworks’ Director, Jenny Moore, stepped into the role in 2023 with a vision to establish Tinworks as a lasting cultural anchor in Bozeman. She describes the move as an opportunity to bring contemporary art to Main Street and engage with the community in new ways. According to The Art Newspaper, the space at the Rialto was donated to Tinworks by its previous owners.

If you’ve ever visited their summer exhibits, you know Tinworks does art differently. They transform repurposed spaces like barns and warehouses into creative, immersive environments. Bringing that same energy downtown adds something new to Main Street, and gives Tinworks a space where they can host exhibits year-round.

What’s Happening to the Original Tinworks?

Tinworks isn’t leaving its old location behind. They are currently restoring and expanding the mill building at their original location in northeast Bozeman. Once completed, it will feature flexible galleries, a visitor center, and office space, with one major upgrade visitors will appreciate: heat.
