The Montana Property Tax Rebate will be available to eligible Montana taxpayers again this year. If you paid property taxes in Montana for the 2024 tax year you may qualify for a rebate of up to $400.
The qualifications for the rebate are:
The rebate is only eligible to individuals, not homes held in an LLC, corporation, estate, or trust. The rebate is for $400 or an amount not to exceed the property taxes paid on the residence. You must file a claim with the Montana Department of Revenue to receive the rebate!
Make sure you have your property's Geocode and 2024 tax amount paid, which you can find on your tax bill or by clicking here. If you received a letter regarding the rebate, you will also need the Letter ID. Social security numbers for yourself, your spouse, and your dependents are required. If filing online, have your bank account information ready.
There are two ways to claim your rebate.
1) Starting August 15th, file online through TAP, which you can get to by clicking here. The process takes less than ten minutes if you have all the information ready. It is also the fastest way to get your rebate. Claims for rebates will begin August 15, 2025, and must be filed by October 1, 2025 for the 2024 tax year.
2) Fill out the paper form and mail it in. The form can be found on the Montana Department of Revenue website. This way will take up to 90 days.
How to request an appraisal review

If you have questions, call or email the department (406-582-3400 dorpadbozeman@mt.gov). If you still disagree with the valuation, then it's time to submit a Request for Informal Classification and Appraisal Review. To start the process, visit mtrevenue.gov to find Form AB-26. If you are requesting an overall valuation change that is not related to a physical characteristic change, you will need additional documents:
