Bozeman Summer Events You Don’t Want to Miss

Bozeman Summer Events You Don’t Want to Miss

Summer is, in our opinion, the BEST time of the year in Bozeman.  The sun shines, there is so much going on, everyone is in good spirits...the only hard part is trying to do all the summer things in three short months!  Here are the events not to be missed this summer in Bozeman.

ART WALKS DOWNTOWN BOZEMAN

One of downtown's best summer events!  The 2nd Friday of each month the art galleries and shops stay open late generally featuring an artists' reception along with hors-d'oeuvres and refreshments.  It's always fun to stroll downtown on a summer evening, popping in and out of the art galleries and soaking up the good energy of all the people out and about.  The first one is June 8th, starting at 6 pm and they'll continue each month through September (with a bonus winter one in December).

MUSIC ON MAIN

This will be the 18th year for Music on Main!  It's hard to believe that when it first began it was a small event that most accidentally ended up at because they happened to be downtown that night.  Now it's hard to find a parking space on Music on Main nights because everyone joins the fun!  This season kicks off June 28th and continues on Thursdays through August 16th.  Music starts at 7:30 pm and there's a Kids Zone with bouncy houses and games.  You'll find plenty of food options and they bring in great bands.  For locals, Thursday night is Music on Main night and for tourists a must stop during your vacation.  For a list of bands playing, click here.

MUSIC IN THE MOUNTAINS

If you're willing to take the pretty drive to Big Sky on Thursday nights, you'll be rewarded with awesome music while being surrounded by the mountains.  The first one is June 21st and they continue through August.  It's family-friendly, lots of food options and music starts at 6 pm.  For a full line-up, click here.

MUSIC ON THE GREEN

Are you getting the feeling that Bozemanites really like live music in the summer?  Music on the Green takes place on the lawn of the Bozeman Public Library on Sunday evenings, a perfect way to wrap up the weekend.  They only happen once a month so try to squeeze at least one or two in.  They start at 5 pm, bring your blankets, family and picnics and enjoy the music.

THE CANNERY DISTRICT PATIO SERIES

Have you been to the patio behind 406 Brewery in the Cannery District?  It's pretty fantastic and this summer they have a full concert series.  These are family-friendly concerts and there's food, drinks and games.  Even better?  The shows will benefit the Creek to Peak Foundation.  Click here to see the lineup.

For more summer music options, check out the Rialto and Live from the Divide!

FOOD TRUCK FRIDAYS

Start your weekend early by going to the Architects Wife parking lot on Fridays in June from 11:30 am -2 pm.  Socialize and grab some lunch from one of the many food trucks that will be there.

LUNCH ON THE LAWN

This is a summertime tradition for many Bozeman locals and a great way to spend a lunch hour in the middle of the week.  These will begin at the Emerson on July 11th and continue on Wednesdays through August.  There will be live music, food vendors and plenty of kids activities.  They take place from 11:30 am- 1:30 pm.  We're so happy this tradition will continue.

BOGERT FARMERS MARKET

We can't wait for the first Farmers Market of the season!  Every Tuesday from June through September,  Bogert park fills with fresh produce from local farms, crafts, food vendors, live music and more.  It's a favorite and can get crowded.  Our best advice?  Go to the early and late season ones, they tend to have fewer people.

GALLATIN VALLEY FARMERS MARKET

We're so lucky to have not one, but two great Farmers Markets in Bozeman.  The Gallatin Valley Farmers Market has been around for over 40 years and takes place at the Gallatin Fair Grounds on Saturdays from 9 am to noon.  The first one is June 16th.

BOZEMAN FILM FESTIVAL

This celebration of film will take place June 7th through 10th at all of our favorite venues...The Ellen, Rialto, Emerson, Willson, Museum and MSU.   The type of films run the whole gamut from documentaries to animation to Montana films.  Click here for information on all the films, times and locations.

MONTANA SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK

Since 1973 Montana Shakespeare in the Park has been bringing us free, live, professional productions.  The shows always take place in local parks or public places making them accessible to everyone.  This year they will be performing Othello and Love's Labour's Lost.  The first show of the season will be June 13th at the MSU Duck Pond and it will continue through that week.  After that, they'll travel throughout Montana and come back to Bozeman for Sweet Pea weekend.  Click here for the full schedule.

LIVING HISTORY FARM AT THE MUSEUM OF THE ROCKIES

If you haven't been the Living History Farm at the MOR, make sure to add it to your summer bucket list.  The Tinsely House was relocated to the Museum in 1989 and throughout the summer months, costumed interpreters take you back in time as you tour the homestead, garden and blacksmiths shop.  It is open every day from 10 am - 4 pm and the best part is, it's free admission!  (the rest of the museum charges regular admission prices).

BIG SKY COUNTY STATE FAIR

Live music, barnyard brawl kids competition, Bozeman roundup ranch rodeo, carnival rides and more will all be happening July 18-22nd at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.  Click here for full details.

BOZEMAN STAMPEDE

This non-profit rodeo began in 2010 by a group of Bozemanites who wanted to bring back the sanctioned rodeo to Bozeman.  The goal is to provide a fun community event while benefiting Bozeman businesses and help raise money to local agricultural groups.  This year the Stampede will be August 9, 10 and 11th.

CRUISIN' ON MAIN ANNUAL CAR SHOW

On August 19th Main Street will fill up with hundreds of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles.  There will be live music, food, prize drawings and so much fun.  This is a great event for the whole family whether you are a car enthusiast or not.  Click here for more information.

BRIDGER RIDGE RUN

This isn't so much an event as a challenge and quite the Bozeman tradition.  The Ridge Run is 19.65 miles of brutal climbing and descending along the Ridge of the Bridgers starting at the trail to Sacajawea Peak and ending at the parking lot of the M.  If you're not up to the actual race you can still get in on the fun and volunteer or cheer people on from various points (they will need it!)

SWEET PEA FESTIVAL

No Bozeman summer events list would be complete without the beloved Sweet Pea Festival!  This will be the 41st year for the three-day festival that is held the first weekend of every August at Lindley Park.  Things begin earlier in the week with the Bite of Bozeman, Chalk on the Walk, the Sweet Pea Runs and parade on Saturday morning.  The festival itself kicks off Friday evening and throughout the weekend there will be music, art, dance performances, kids activities, food, a beer and wine garden and so much more.  This is a huge community event that brings together locals and tourists every year.  For information, click here.

SLAM FESTIVAL

After 8 years, SLAM has firmly found its place in Bozeman.  This is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting art education by showcasing the talent of local Montana residents.  It is a free event at Bogert park August 4th and 5th.  There will be music and dance performances throughout both days, live artist demonstrations, local food vendors and local artists selling their goods.  SLAM has quickly become a Bozeman favorite as a free, family-friendly, local event.
